``tree studio buildings The Tree Studio Complex is a group of three buildings comprising the original Tree Studio, built in 1894, and the Ontario and Ohio Street Annexes, two additions built in 1912-1913. They were erected by Lambert Tree to provide low cost housing and studio space for artists. All the buildings are steel-framed and two stories high. The U-shape plan of the complex surrounds a courtyard. The west facade of the Tree Studio is composed of a full length cast iron arcade at the ground level for small stores. The second story is covered in a buff colored Roman brick with large windows for the artists' studios. Moderators: CHELSEA D., EMERSON.

The tower originally housed a water tower that supplied the sprinkler system. The concrete and steel frame of the building is covered with a massive brick facade. The upper floor spandrels, entrances and bays were accented by terra cotta decorations. Moderators: CHELSEA D., EMERSON.

``chicago public library Influenced by the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition, the first permanent home of the Chicago Public Library was designed in the Beaux Arts style by the Boston architectural firm of Shepley, Rutan, and Coolidge. It was constructed between 1893 and 1897 at Dearborn Park. The building houses a magnificent system of mosaics and glasswork that were designed by Robert C. Spencer and executed by J. L. Holzer, an artist who studied under Tiffany. The Grand Staircase is the central focus of the interior and is made of white Carrara statuary marble with mosaic inlays. The exterior is a model of massive solidarity with an arcade running along the ground level and colonnades lining the top story under a heavy cornice. Moderators: CHELSEA D., EMERSON.
``marshall field company Marshall Field and Company built their third permanent store in 1892 after fires damaged their first two. By 1907, through the acquisition of adjacent buildings and the construction of new ones, the department store occupied the entire block bounded by State, Washington, and Randolph Streets and Wabash Avenue in Chicago's Loop. This location was key for other businesses in the city's emerging retail district. Field himself emphasized the importance of customer service and is considered to be one of the leading figures in the development of the department store. An entablature with a dentilated cornice rises above the 10th floor. The 11th and 12th floors compose the crown with its recessed windows and fluted Ionic columns. These columns span both floors and support the cornice which caps the building. Moderators: CHELSEA D., EMERSON.

``the estates (1 sub-board) this is were the best of the best live in Chicago. Large, gated yards, beautiful houses, flowers, fancy cars, clean sidewalks. The water seems clearer, the grass seems greener, the air seems cleaner. The estates are large, topped with even larger houses. The women here dress like goddesses, and the men all walk with a purpose, suitcases in hand. This is the creme de la creme. Though things are not always as they seem and no one asks how you got your money as most of the folks here recieved it illegally. Normal business men may be gangsters, and normal trophie wives may be hookers. Who really knows? Moderators: CHELSEA D., EMERSON.

``the wilderness chicago wilderness. A mixture of forests, wetlands, prairies. Open woodlands and Flat woodlands, forests so thick the sun can't be seen through their branches. It's pretty lovely most of the time but hicks toatin' guns live out here and gangsters have known to bury people they don't want found. The river goes through here and the local police force think that's where the gangsters get their business from. Though they have yet to do much about it. Moderators: CHELSEA D., EMERSON.

``graceland cemetary Graceland Cemetery is a large Victorian-era cemetery located in the north side community area of Uptown, in the city of Chicago, Illinois, USA. Established in 1860, its main entrance is at Clark and Irving Park. The Sheridan stop on the Red Line is the nearest CTA "L" station. The cemetery is typical of those that reflect Queen Victoria's reconception of the early 19th century "graveyard". Instead of poorly-maintained headstones, and bodies buried on top of each other, on an ungenerous parcel of land; the cemetery became a pastoral landscaped park dotted with memorial markers, with room left over for picnics, a common usage of the cemetery. Graceland is one of three notable 19th century cemeteries which were previously well outside the city limits. Moderators: CHELSEA D., EMERSON.

It's not as popular now-a-days due to the fanciful cars and all, but the place still runs well and brings in people everyday at the same time. right on the dot. Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favour fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.
